Throwback Thursday: Jill Ellis (’88) & USWNT Wins the World Cup!

They hadn’t won it all since 1999. Over 15 years later, W&M alum and U.S. Women’s National Team Head Coach Jill Ellis (’88) had brought her team to the 2015 World Cup Finals. It was now or never. Against a strong opponent, the U.S. exercised complete dominance, thoroughly handling Japan in a 5-2 victory. Check out the video above, which includes remarks from former long-time W&M Women’s Soccer Head Coach John Daly, who coached Ellis back in the ’80s.

It’s more than safe to say that Ellis (seen rushing onto the field at 2:22 in the World Cup highlight video below) has taken this team to new heights, as they currently rank #1 worldwide in the FIFA World Rankings. We couldn’t be happier for Jill, and we are incredibly excited to see her continue to wreak havoc on the sports world moving forward.

LET’S GO TRIBE!!!
