William and Mary just steamrolled the Drexel Dragons on their court, 73-47. The Tribe didn’t start well, but heated up toward the end of the first half and beyond. They outscored Drexel 39-18 in the second half, and Marcus Thornton was a large part of that. He scored 18 points in the first half, and added 5 in the second half to finish the game with 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists.
This night was extra special for Marcus, as a reported 6 NBA scouts were in attendance to watch the W&M phenom, according to Aaron Bracy, a college hoops writer in Philadelphia. The representatives were from the Nets, Spurs, Nuggets, Wizards, Magic, and Grizzlies.
There are about 6 #NBA scouts here looking at Thornton. Among those represented are Spurs, Magic & Nets.
Former #NBA GM Ed Stefanski, now scouting for Grizzlies, among those here tonight to see W&M’s Marcus Thornton.
Marcus for sure knew they were in the stands, as Adam Hermann, intern for Drexel Basketball, pointed out.
My goodness. Marcus Thornton throws down a baseline dunk, stares down the NBA scouts here tonight. My. Goodness. Gracious.
Marcus is having a very impressive year, and has looked dominant in almost every game for the Tribe. This is nothing new to the Tribe faithful, who have seen Thornton mature since he was a freshman. However, he is finally getting the national attention he deserves, and is shining in the spotlight.
According to Aaron Bracy of the Daily Press, one NBA scout said “Offensively, he’s got it.” Further, the scout said that the question isn’t whether Marcus will play in the NBA, but whether he will stick.
