Tribe Poised for CAA Championships on Friday

For the William and Mary men’s and women’s cross-country teams, winning comes easy. The
Tribe women have won 23 CAA championships while the men have won 21 of the last 23 CAA
championships and will look to add to that number on Friday morning at Pole Green Park as the Tribe host the 2023 CAA Championships in Mechanicsville, Virginia.

The Tribe will look to right the ship a year after the men and women finished third and fourth, respectively. For a team that is used to dominance, this may seem like a disappointing result, but the Tribe are hungry for a trophy in this year’s edition of the championships. The men will need to get past Stony Brook and Northeastern, who place 1 st and 2 nd a year ago. Both teams are ranked in the top ten in the Northeast Region. Another formidable opponent is Campbell, participating in their first CAA championship since joining the conference. Senior Sam Pritchard will look to capitalize on his last opportunity in the CAA championships. The Springfield, Virginia native led the way for the Tribe at the Adidas XC challenge in September. Nate Jennings is the Tribe’s top returner and will look to improve upon his 20 th place finish in 2022.

For the women, the Tribe will have to get past last year’s champion Elon and Northeastern. Elon has won four straight CAA championships and will look to add to that number this year. The Huskies of Northeastern are ranked third in the Northeast region and have a chance to make the NCAA championships held in November. The Tribe defeated Elon in early October at the Pre-National meet in Charlottesville, Virginia. Arianna Deboer and Sofia Istnick lead the way for the Green and Gold and will look to improve upon their top ten finishes a year ago.

Be sure to come out and support one of the winningest teams in school history on Friday morning! The women’s 6k starts at 10:00 am with the men’s 8k to follow at 11:00 am. LET’S GO TRIBE!!
