The William and Mary Tribe Women’s basketball team’s season has been a rollercoaster ride, to say the least. The team started out 1-4, then won 7 straight games, lost 4 straight, and now has won 5 of their last 9 to bring the team to a winning record of 13-12. This team has shown, however, that its peaks are higher than its lows, and these athletes can contend with anyone in the conference. Today we’ll be looking back at their season so far, where the team is now, and where they can go.
The Tribe Women had a very rough start to their season, losing 4 out of 5 games, including 2 out of 3 at home. They truly kicked it up a notch over the course of the next month and a half, when they rattled off 7 straight wins, including an impressive road win against an ACC foe in Wake Forest. They then had a string of four straight losses, which included two nail-biters against top conference opponents, only losing to Charleston and Campbell by 2 points each. The team recently has been playing good basketball, winning 5 of their last 9 and earning a conference record of 6-8 and an overall record of 13-12.

The lady Tribe members are made up of a very talented group. Star junior guard Cassidy Geddes leads the team in both minutes played (34.5) and points (13.3) per game. Other regular starters include sophomore forward Natalie Fox, junior guard Monet Dance, junior guard Kyah Smith, and senior guard Alexa Mikeska. Junior center Jana Sallman leads the Tribe in rebounds per game (6.1) while also receiving CAA Player of the Week honors last week for putting together a stellar 25-point, 12-rebound, and 4-block performance in the Tribe’s win over Towson.
Head Coach Erin Dickerson-Davis seems to like this team to play smaller, regularly starting 4 guards and one forward, while mixing her center in a lot. This plays into the team’s playstyle a lot and how they tend to win games. This year’s Tribe women’s team seems to play very well in close games, but they very rarely blow out teams and have trouble erasing a large deficit if they need to. Overall, this is a very talented team with a very exciting style of play, while currently being in a better position than at the same time last year (12-11).

Last year the lady Tribe members were the focus of national attention when they ran the gauntlet in the CAA tournament, won their play-in game, and participated in March Madness last year. Head Coach Erin Dickerson-Davis and plenty of members of this team certainly remember that and are aiming for it again. They have a fantastic formula to go on a run in a tournament-style competition because their style of play allows them to play competitively with anyone on any stage. This team absolutely is capable of repeating what it did last year to give itself another chance on the national stage, and with the whole school watching, they’re going to give it their best go.
The next Tribe Women’s Basketball game is on the road on Friday, February 17, 2026 at 7pm versus Charleston. Tune in on FloSports to support the Tribe!

I saw the women play against Towson, and they were absolutely at their best running the offense through their post players. Jana Salzman had a fabulous game, and Marley Long was fantastic. Monet Dance shot it great that night, but the offense really clicked when they got the ball inside.
