Chase Lowe: All In for the Tribe

By: Luca Gomez

Chase Lowe, senior starting guard for the William and Mary Men’s Basketball team, has been putting together another fantastic season for the Tribe. This is no surprise to his teammates, coaches, or anyone with eyes, as he’s established himself as a central piece of this basketball operation over the course of his four years as a member of this team.

Chase Lowe is a senior here at William and Mary and originally from Weddington, North Carolina. He has been committed to the Tribe since the day he stepped on campus and has played all four years for the Men’s Basketball team. He claims that his favorite player is LeBron James, but he models his game after another Lakers star, Magic Johnson, saying in December during an interview, “Magic Johnson was also a very large point guard who got joy from getting his teammates involved,” Chase explained. “I think we are both pass-first point guards and leaders on the court.”

Lowe showed plenty of flashes as a freshman, recording double-digit points in only his second career regular-season game. He truly emerged as a star on this team as a sophomore, when he averaged 12.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 26.8 minutes per game, all career highs. It was after this season that his game evolved to being the most well-rounded team player on the roster. In his junior year, he turned the ball over less and stole the ball slightly more while also receiving CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll honors after the fall semester.

This season is arguably Chase’s best work yet. So far, he is averaging 9.5 points and leading the team with 5.7 rebounds and a career-best 4.1 assists per game. By many metrics, he is on pace for his most efficient season, making 55.8% of his shots while also making 78.3% of his free throws (a full 12% higher than his next best season). He is also managing to turn the ball over the least in his entire career while starting all 22 games for the Tribe this season as of writing.

Chase Lowe is truly a do-it-all player for the William and Mary Men’s Basketball team. He has been a full member of the Tribe for all four seasons of his college career, putting together a fantastic basketball career here while also earning academic honors at one of the hardest academic schools in the country. He surely is looking to cap off his career with a CAA Championship, an accomplishment he has yet to achieve, but this year’s team will absolutely have an opportunity to pull it off. The Tribe is currently 14–8 and tied for fifth in the conference. This team certainly has the talent and the leadership to run the table.
